The hole in a donut is a mysterious thing. When you eat a donut, the hole is naturally lost. But it is not lost; it is not there. But it is there. The "no" is "there"... the "no" was "there".I came across a book. It is an interdisciplinary research book, "In Search of the Lost Donut Hole" (Saihateisha, 2017). The book was an intellectual exploration of the theme of the "hole" in the doughnut, interweaving the words of scholars from various specialized fields. Since then, I've been dabbling in donutology, trying to find words and perspectives on donut holes as an artist.

"Can a donut hole be a subject?"

One day, while pondering the answer to this question, I was eating a doughnut at a local doughnut store. When I bought a donut, I was given a piece of glassine paper and a paper napkin on which I placed the donut as I ate. When I finished eating, I looked at the glassine paper and paper napkin and saw traces of oil and food debris. As I looked at them, I felt the "hole of the lost donut," and it made me feel strange.

This is what Roland Barthes calls the essence or Noema of photography, "it was once there.

I discovered the photographic nature of the donut hole from the original experience of feeling it, and created this work in order to capture the essence of it by imitating it. This work is a message of light from me to <DOUGHNUT-TOLOGY>.
