Doughnut Holes traces the “lost hole of the doughnut” in its remains—oil stains and crumbs left on glassine paper or napkins after eating—aligning these traces with Roland Barthes’s notion of photography’s essence, “ça a été.” Conceived as a luminous correspondence, the work serves as the artist’s response to the study of “donutology.”
