Jun Iizuka has previously presented unique works such as FOREST MEMORY GAME and PICTURE CELLCUBE. The former invites viewers to relive the artist’s own experience of being lost in a forest through a card game printed with forest photographs, while the latter transforms the pixels of a single digital image into a cube puzzle, thereby highlighting the endless mutability of digital imagery. In this exhibition, PLAY, Iizuka unveiled a new body of work that imbues ready-made objects with a sense of “play.” These included works that allow viewers to re-experience his visit to the Louvre Museum, as well as works that offer solace to characters from discontinued arcade games. In an age where rationality is often emphasized, the exhibition reconsidered new forms of value through a profoundly personal gaze.
